Reading the essays collected within the miscellaneous volume edited by Vittorio Ponzani L’orgoglio di essere bibliotecari: saggi in ricordo di Maria A. Abenante (AIB, 2020) offers the opportunity to reflect on some of the values that support and move the librarian action: declined in its various services, aimed at a varied audience, immersed in a complex information reality, today perhaps more than ever it needs solid elements on which to rely. Pride, inclusion, bond for one’s land and farsightedness, but also meekness, rigor and conviction are some of the characteristics that guided the professional and life path of Maria A. Abenante (1969-2019), and which can serve as an anchor, but also be inspirational.
