The paper gives an account of the conference “Archaeological and book heritage during World War One: instruments for an Italian public memory one century after” (University of Urbino, May 6th, 2015). The conference was an opportunity for scholars in different fields to meet and discuss about the same topic, trying to delineate a portrait as accurate as possible of World War One, and of the deep wound that was inflicted to the whole country.
