The enduring newness of La biblioteca: scenari, culture, pratiche di servizio by Giovanni Solimine

Abstract

The article aims to reflect on topics faced by Giovanni Solimine in his book La biblioteca: scenari, culture, pratiche di servizio (Laterza, 2004) and on the author’s purpose of «proposing an interpretation of the transformations that are affecting the system of production and circulation of knowledge and [...] reflecting on the position that the library assumes in this context».
Solimine’s volume is about libraries as center of the social system of knowledge creation, transfer and transformation, and it does not aim to ‘dissect’ their structure and functions.
