ISBD(CM) – International standard bibliographic description for cartographic materials – constitutes the first international standard for the description of cartographic materials. It was published in 1977 and since then has been an indispensable reference for the development of cataloguing rules specifically for cartography. In 1987, a revision of the standard came out and in 2004 a working group was set up to develop a new draft of the text which was never published in final form. In 2011, the ISBD Consolidated edition was published and it has recently been revised and updated. The new text, published in 2021, includes important new features for the description of celestial cartography.
