Silvano Gerevini was director of the Biblioteca universitaria in Pavia (1955-1973) and a professor of English language and literature at the local university. At Pavia University he devoted himself to the creation and development of the library of the Institute of English language and literature founded in 1959-1960 and directed by him from 1971 to 1982. In the first three decades of their life the institute (from 1983 as part of the Department of foreign languages and literatures) and its library changed their seat twice (in 1978 and in 1989-1990). The classification scheme used by Gerevini to arrange the books was partly transmitted orally. After his death it took some time before the attempt was undertaken, due to practical reasons, to reconstruct and write down the scheme and the call number system in their entirety.Downloads
