This short paper examines Giovanni Solimine’s book on Universal Bibliographic Control (UBC), published in the mid-1990s. Here, I will analyse both the structure of Solimine’s volume, and the changes that have taken place in the bibliographical landscape since its publication, with particular regard to changes in standards and projects. Starting from Solimine’s analysis, the aim of this paper is to redefine UBC as a process determined by cultural, social and technological factors.
