The article focuses on ‘augmented reading’, that is the process of deepening and widening the reading of a text – regardless of the nature of its format and the reading medium used, be it print or digital – through the consultation, on the reader’s side, of materials, contents and information resources available online, no matter their nature.
In the first part of the article, the author briefly analyzes the relationship between augmented reading and text analysis, focusing on the concepts of intertextuality and intermediality. The second part of the article illustrates two examples of augmented reading, both taken from the novel The black cloud, published in 1957 by the English astrophysicist and cosmologist Fred Hoyle (1915-2001).
